Proceedings
of the International Symposium and Exhibition on the Redevelopment of
Manfactured Gas Plant Sites, 4-6 April, Reading, UK
The second symposium in a series focusing on successful redevelopment, case studies, innovative remediation technologies, public involvement and community relations and risk management issues of manufactured gas plants.
In the years since the first symposium of the series, MGP '95, there have been a number of spectacular examples of MGP site clean-up and reuse. Projects like The Millennium Dome in London, the Stade de France in Paris and PacBell Stadium in San Francisco took abandoned MGP properties and converted them in dramatic ways. The Gasometers in Vienna and the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam have won International architectural and planning accolades for the incorporation of MGP industrial buildings in the site reuse. At the same time that these dramatic examples of site remediation and reuse have been going on, hundreds of smaller sites have been brought to successful closure.
While hundreds of sites have been closed, this represents only a beginning of the job. Thousands of sites still remain to be dealt with, and among those are some of the more complex and difficult. MGP 2006, was organized to provide MGP site owners, site managers, and community stakeholders with an opportunity to exchange experiences in closing sites and turning them into valuable community assets. The symposium focused on successful redevelopment, case studies, innovative remediation technologies, public involvement and community relations and risk management issues.
Technical focus areas for MGP 2006 include:c. 500 pages. Paperback.
