Notes for contributors

Land Contamination & Reclamation publishes original research and review papers on the environmental, technical and public health issues relating to the contamination and remediation of soil and groundwater, together with coverage of legal, public policy and commercial aspects. Contributions are invited in the form of research papers, case studies, and regional and thematic reviews. The journal also welcomes informal articles or press releases for inclusion in the ‘Bulletin’ section.

Papers should be complete accounts of work which has special significance and must be presented clearly and concisely. Papers are usually between 2000 and 5000 words, although longer papers can be accommodated. Articles for the 'Bulletin' should not exceed 2000 words.

Only contributions not submitted or published elsewhere can be accepted for review. Authors should refer to the publisher if in doubt. Authors are responsible for the originality of their texts. Authors are encouraged to suggest potential referees. Manuscripts should be submitted to one of the following editors:

Copyright
A copyright transfer form should be submitted with each paper. The corresponding author should obtain co-authors' signatures. The form is available from the publisher and can be downloaded from www.epppublications.com. For authors not wishing to transfer copyright, an exclusive licence form is also available.

Format
All papers should be submitted in English, on a CD or email attachment in Microsoft Word, double-spaced, with all illustrations and tables. Pages should be numbered. Manuscripts may be edited for clarity and grammar. Proofs are sent to authors before publication.
The following should be included:

– the title (and a short title of about 45 characters, if main title is longer);
– authors' names and affiliations, and contact information for the corresponding author
;
– an abstract of not more than 300 words;
– a list of key words in alphabetical order;
– any relevant acknowledgements.

The papers should follow the sequence: title, author(s), abstract, key words, introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusions, references, acknowledgements. Authors should keep a copy. The publisher cannot accept responsibility for loss of or damage to material submitted.

Illustrations
Avoid files that are optimized for screen use (e.g. GIF, BMP, PICT). Resolution should be at least 300 DPI for photos and halftones, and 1200 DPI for line illustrations. Colour art should be saved as CMYK. A printout of the illustrations should be included. All illustrations should be numbered and labelled, and the top of the illustration indicated. Figures should be numbered in the order cited in the text. Figures will often be reduced – the type size of any text in a figure should take this into account.

References
In the text, give the author(s) and year of publication in parentheses e.g. (Salter 1992) and list references in alphabetical order, by author, at the end of the paper. When citing a string of references, they should be listed chronologically. For references in the text, if there are more than two authors give the first author followed by et al. Add ‘a’ or ‘b’ after the year of publication if citing more than one item published by the same author in the same year, or if citing multiauthor works with the same first author published in the same year.

In the list of references et al. should only be used if a publication has more than six authors. References should appear in the following forms:

Blackie, Glasgow: i.e. author’s name – initial(s) – date – title of chapter (if applicable) – title of book – editor (if applicable) – page range – publisher – place of publication
